Water quality characteristics of Vanderkloof Dam and its potential for rainbow trout farming

چکیده
Vanderkloof Dam was periodically sampled between November 2014 and April 2016 for a range of water quality parameters to assess the potential cage culture rainbow trout, Oncorhyncus mykiss. The dam is strongly stratified in summer autumn, although upper column temperatures remain relatively cool, largely <25°C. considered oligotrophic, characterised by phosphorus limitation primary production, particularly during summer. Light attenuated epilimnion heterotrophic community metabolism observed through much column. Surface nutrients are depleted with phytoplankton assemblages dominated green algae, Oocystis lacustris, Desmodesmus bicaudatus Coelastrum microporum. turns over winter nearly isothermal impoundment approaches 11°C. Nutrients re-introduced into surface waters following mixing coincident an increase diatoms. preferred environmental window trout becomes severely contracted that exceed 21°C thermocline/hypolimnion oxygen concentrations fall below 3 mg‧L−1. coincidence high pH >9.5 could exacerbate these physiological challenges. Hydrological conditions fish farming most suitable proximity wall as opposed further upstream. Here hypoxic develop autumn less pronounced, towards southern bank, where total suspended solids generally <10 mg‧L−1 clarity more favourable visual feeders such fish. Although may survive adverse prevalent summer, growth likely be compromised susceptibility disease increase.

Review on rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) farming in desert underground Brackish water in Iran
Inland saline aquaculture may offer an opportunity for income diversification and a potentially productive use of land that can no longer support traditional agriculture in salt-affected parts of inland production and investment levels are characteristically low. It needs to develop in a manner that both prevents the further degradation of agricultural land and provides opportunities for an alt...
متن کاملconstruction and validation of translation metacognitive strategy questionnaire and its application to translation quality
like any other learning activity, translation is a problem solving activity which involves executing parallel cognitive processes. the ability to think about these higher processes, plan, organize, monitor and evaluate the most influential executive cognitive processes is what flavell (1975) called “metacognition” which encompasses raising awareness of mental processes as well as using effectiv...
Effect of water current on some growth performance and water quality in a closed rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) culture system
The effects of water current increment on rainbow trout ( Oncorhynchus mykiss ) culture were investigated during a 35 day experiment. Fish weighing 5.5 g were stocked in aquarium tanks. Four different water speeds (0, 3.5, 7, 10.5 cm/s) were provided for each treatment in three replicates. These different currents water were provided by reusing outlet water of each culture unit...
متن کاملClinical screening for cataracts in rainbow trout and non-salmonid fish in traditional fresh water pond farming
Routine screening of rainbow trout and other non-salmonid fish species from traditional pond farms in Lower Saxony, Germany, indicated a low incidence of cataract and other optical changes. The cataract problem and more severe eye changes, although present in freshwater fish farming, seem to be less prevalent than in marine production of Atlantic salmon. Cataracts have been a subject of increas...
